Timor Leste is in the Wetar Strait, a 3,000m-deep cetacean superhighway which runs along the north coast of the country.
From September until December the channel between Dili and Atauro Island is a migration path for the Blue Whale – largest animal ever to have lived and Sperm Whale the largest ever carnivore.
In addition, Short-finned Pilot Whales, Melon-headed whales, Spotted, Spinner, Bottle-nosed and Rough-toothed Dolphins are present all year round. With the occasional Whale shark and Orca for the very lucky.
