Entering Timor Leste
There are currently no nationalities that will be denied entry to Timor Leste; likewise there are no stamps in your passport that will prevent you from entering. Visas can be obtained on arrival through the airport. The cost is 30 USD for 30 days, which is payable in cash on arrival at Dili International Airport. Some countries are exempt and Schengen passport holders get a 3 month visa free of charge. You do have to have evidence of an onward ticket by air or bus,
By Air
Presidente Nicolau Lobato International Airport in Dili is the main international airport for East Timor. Major international airlines that serve Díli directly include:
From Darwin Australia:
Quantas flies daily from Darwin to Dili
Airnorth flies twice a week from Darwin to Dili
From Singapore:
Aero Dili flies twice a week from Singapore to Dili on Sundays and Thursdays
From Bali, Indonesia:
Citilink and Aero Dili both fly daily from Bali. If you are a diver then Aero Dili is a better choice with 25kg luggage allowance plus an extra free 10kg for diving gear. CityLink’s allowance is 20kg.
From Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia:
Batik Air flies from KL to Dili 3 times a week on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays
Please note: If taking a taxi from the airport to Dive Timor Lorosae tell the driver to drop you at Castaway bar (Our restaurant) as sometimes the local taxi drivers don’t know about Dive Timor but everyone knows Castaway’s! The official scheduled fare advertised at the airport is US$15 but have the exact money and check the price with the driver first.
By Land
You can travel overland by bus via Kupang, West Timor’s main city, or Atambua. Entry is visa on arrival. Buses arrive and depart from Timor Plaza
