What is Dive Against Debris?
Dive Against Debris is a global initiative led by Project AWARE, aimed at reducing underwater marine debris. It encourages scuba divers and ocean enthusiasts to conduct underwater cleanups and report the types and quantities of debris they collect. The program not only helps remove trash from the ocean but also gathers critical data on pollution sources to inform policies and improve waste management practices globally. Participants contribute to a global database, empowering communities and organizations to advocate for cleaner, healthier oceans.
As the only PADI Eco Centre in Timor Leste, Dive Timor Lorosae undertake a Dive against Debris at least once a month.
What is Adopt a Dive Site?
Dive Timor Lorosae is an active member of Green Fins and has adopted the dive site La Casa. La Casa is an artificial reef built by us in 2016 and recently added too with some new pyramid structures.
Adopt a Dive Site is a program by Project AWARE that empowers dive centers, instructors, and divers to take long-term responsibility for protecting their local dive sites. Participants commit to conducting regular underwater cleanups at their chosen site and reporting debris data to Project AWARE’s global database. This ongoing effort helps monitor marine debris trends, promote ocean stewardship, and create lasting environmental change. By adopting a dive site, participants play a critical role in safeguarding the underwater environment and raising awareness about the importance of ocean conservation
